Our foreshore litter picks are a great way to get involved and make a difference. On this page, you'll find everything you need to know - there's no need to register, just turn up on the day. Please note that, in order to comply with our safety obligations, events on the foreshore are only open to those aged 16 or over.
We'll be meeting at the Children's Play Area, Esplanade Gardens, Rochester ME1 1QN
What to Expect
Our principal activity for this session is litter picking on the river foreshore, but there are other tasks to choose from, including:
- Litter Picking: Keeping the gardens and riverside walks clean and tidy
- Gardening: Helping to improve and maintain the gardens and hedgerows, including planting, weeding, and pruning
- Maintenance: restoring and improving amenities on site, such as benches, railings, bollards etc.
So whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or trying it out for the first time, there’s a task for everyone.
What to Wear and Bring
Our sessions take place outdoors, so it’s important to come prepared for the weather and the work. Here are some general guidelines:
- Wear sturdy footwear and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
- Dress appropriately for the weather, including waterproofs if it’s likely to rain
- In hot weather, bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water to stay hydrated
We provide all the tools and PPE you’ll need, such as litter pickers, hoops, bags, gloves, and safety glasses. If you have your own favourite gloves or tools, feel free to bring them along.
